A Brown Shoe is an Aviator
A Black Shoe is a Boatie

Uniform shoe color

Each group thinks they are superior and the real backbone of the CG, pretty much like a sibling rivalry

Dana, It is good to hear you will be staying a bit longer on the Munro. I enjoy reading your blogs and all the comments. You really have given those of us who don't know a thing about the Coast Guard a good look at what it is all about. I don't want to sound stupid, but could someone tell me the difference between a brown shoe and a black shoe person?

I think it would be neat if you could incorporate some of the personnel into your next book. I don't mean characters, but like you did with the managers of the Danamaniacs. The packages that Kate saw in the closet that were addressed with first names and initials of last name. I just think it would make the book so special. sdjackrabbit

Just a quick "me too" on how much I'm loving the blog! Also, it could be just me but I can only find Week 1 of the photo essay on the Fred's Place site. I know there's plenty of other work to be done, just wondering if it's something I'm doing wrong?
Thanks again for this insight into the day-to-day CG operations.

Dana, Love your descriptions each day. I, too, look forward each morning to the next post. I began reading Blindfold Game yesterday and I am enjoying it. Keep up the good work.

In keeping with "OUR NOW" morning ritual, we've just read your blog to our daughter (she is only 5). She was dancing all around the kitchen, knowing you will stay on for a couple of more weeks. A HUGE! thanks to you, Capt. Lloyd, and the other powers at be, that made your extended stay possible. We can't wait for your next book (a sentiment that is echoed by numerous family members and friends, that are now "hooked" on your blog).
