I’m back from Fairbanks, trailing clouds of glory and clutching my Artist of the Year Award in my hot little hand. It is not the usual plaque, no, no, the Governor’s Arts Awards are much cooler than that. It’s an original piece of art by Homer artist Carla Potter. See photo. Loving the sculpin handles. 
Sorry I haven’t posted lately, but I took some much needed down time post Bouchercon, including ten days sleeping and reading on a Manzanillo beach. I’ve also sent in the murder-in-a-fantasy-setting anthology, Unusual Suspects, which I edited and to which I contributed the second Sharryn the Seer and Crowfoot the Sword story (read an excerpt from the first one here) called “A Woman’s Work.” It’s a good one, if I says it who shouldn’t.
More news coming in the holiday newsletter, along with suggestions for reading material, which could also double as Christmas gifts, if you were so inclined. I always am.

Hey Dana, this is awesome! Even a belly button! Can see why it might not have fit in the suitcase, but oh boy, what a truly one-of-its-kind award and designed by a Homer artist, no less! Never knew anyone with one of these things before! Still waiting on the photos, but hope to get them this week and will forward them on. -K

Aloha Dana! Your award is fabulous! I had to check the dictionary to see exactly what kind of fish the sculpin handles were! LOL! And the Opihi piko (bellybutton) is great! Just how tall is it anyway? You probably gotta do some room or at least shelf rearranging, huh? Congrats again on the award.

It’s 20 inches tall, and it wouldn’t fit into my suitcase so I had to hand carry it home. I spent the whole two flights in a perfect sweat of fear that I was going to chip the glaze.
