Hey, Patty--

I wrote about the honor rape on this post on the Minotaur Moments in Crime blog:

http://www.momentsincrime.com/2008/01/my-worst-day-at.html

You'll see links to the real-life events the first chapter of Prepared for Rage is based on. Your friend has a right to her disbelief. I couldn't believe it either when I first heard about it.

I was pleasantly surprised by Prepared for Rage, not knowing what to expect and being a huge fan of the Kate Shugak series. However, a friend and I are having an extended argument about the original incident that begins that book. She says that is not part of their culture--I say given it could have happened just that way. Were you inspired by any story of the kind?

Hi Dana,

LiveJournal allows rss feeds of other sites to be updated onto their friends pages (a way to keep track of interesting blogs, mostly from lj, but also other places too).

At the bottom of this page - http://www.livejournal.com/explore/ - it allows one to add someone to one's blog, if one has a paid account on lj. I do not, but I know people who do; I don't think they would mind adding your newsletter or blog, if you approve. :)

That is an awesome, awesome answer.

(Oh, and Astonishing X-Men is not quite over yet with #24. There's a Giant Sized edition that no one seems to know anything about, but it is supposed to wrap up Whedon's story, due out sometime in April, unless Marvel decides to wait until 2009 or something to publish it.)

Also, I've been re-reading the Kate books and am quite struck again by how she's changed over the series, while still retaining her Kate-ness, especially after Hunter's Moon. I've been recommending them to anyone who'll listen to me (I don't just blather on about AXM ;) ) and may have sparked the interest of a few more people. Thanks!

Off to read Prepared for Rage.
