Kate 16 excerpt up, plus

Okay, coming out of my hole now to let you know that the sixteenth Kate Shugak novel, otherwise known as Whisper to the Blood, is done and in New York City. Always assuming my editor doesn’t hurl it back in my teeth, you should see it in about a year. Go here to read an excerpt.me boarding the Polar Discovery

You may remember a feature I did on marine pilots in Southcentral Alaska for the Dec/Jan issue of Alaska magazine. Well, it just won “Best Feature” in the annual contest given by Alaska Professional Communicators to award excellence in journalism. This seems to be my year for prizes (see here for Governer’s Arts award for Artist of the Year).Artist of the Year Award Go here to read “On the Bridge.” You’ll have to buy a copy if you want to see the cool photos, though.

In other news — Prepared for Rage is still up front at Barnes and Noble, and they haven’t run out of copies. I’m just saying… I signed it ten days ago in Kodiak, and a whole bunch of Munro‘s crew showed up, with spouses and children. I got a huge kick out of meeting some of the people who posted to the blog while I was on patrol.

Prepared for Rage at Old Faithful And here are Mary Person and Pat Lyons standing in front of Old Faithful holding a copy of Prepared for Rage. In real life, Mary is Associate Dean for Library Services at Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana. Awright! Thanks, Mary.

Anyone who has a photo of themselves holding any of my books in front of something weird or wonderful or instantly recognizable, send it to the Danamaniacs‘s managers at danamaniacs@hotmail.com. They’ll forward it to me and I’ll post it to the website. Alaskans, think cans of Spam for the Whale Fat Follies slide show. ‘maniacs, start your cameras!

    Oh Dana!
Thanks for the excerpt of Whisper to the Blood! Looks like Kate is a bit out of her element this time. It will be fun seeing how you get her through this one. The dialogue reminds me a bit of Breakup, and we all remember Breakup. I can hardly wait! (Like that’s unusual for me.)

Praise from Sandy is praise indeed. Thanks!

The excerpt use Great – but way to short – can we have more Please Please Please…..a year is a really long time to wait.

  4. Dana says:

Sorry, Cass, not right now. Although if my editor and publisher agree, I may be posting the first three chapters one each month the three months prior to publication date. No promises, though.

Love the photo of Mary, a fellow Danamaniac, and a copy of Prepared For Rage! Thanks for sharing that with us.

And, of course, I love the excerpt from WHISPER TO THE BLOOD. Sounds like Kate might just be in a little over her head on this one.

Just a teensy bit. I cannot tell you how much I love this book. You’d think after 16 books I’d be bored stiff with these people, but they keep changing on me (Jim is not at all the guy I thought he was, and I don’t know who’s more surprised at that, me or Kate).

    Dana,
Just letting you know that Silk Road sounds great. I am envious of the fact that a virgin can experience such delight on her firt “bedding”. Can’t wait for this one to come to print. It’s time for the publishers to allow you to “step out of your box!”

We here at Cobbledstones enjoyed PREPARED FOR RAGE, but are double thrilled to hear Kate Shugak will be back in WHISPER TO THE BLOOD. Let the longknives in New York carve up something, but, please, don’t let them change the excerpt posted. It’s a most enjoyable read.

Thanks, Bo! Will do. Or won’t do.
