I wrote it when I got back so I could send it to friends who weren't there, so they'd be really, really jealous. It was a matchless evening, I'll never forget it.

Dana,

Just visited your facebook page and saw how you had joined the "Jimmy Buffet" group and read about your first time. Dang girl, how do you remember that one night in such detail? Wow! Sounds like I sure missed a party!

I also like the way you sling a pen. Very excited by this new venture. Should we start asking Amazon.com when it is coming out? Perhaps that would put a burr under the saddle of your publishers? I am anxiously awaiting the next installlment!

Dana,

On one hand, I can understand the publisher's desire to go with the known. The more I like a series, the more impatient I am for the next book. When a new Kate (or -- oh, joy! -- a new Liam) arrives, I beat a path to the nearest bookstore. Contributing, I guess, to the publisher's "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" business model.

On the other hand, I've thoroughly enjoyed the "Coastie" books. So, even though stand-alones make the wait for new series books longer, I hope the publishers figure out what your readers already have -- you tell one fine story. Regardless of setting and "known brand".

Thanks, Carol. I think I'm going to have to finish that book before anyone buys it. When publishers find a brand that works they like to stick with it (as in Kate Shugak). And I have to eat. But apropos of Silk and Song, look for another excerpt up by the end of the week.
