[links from my Facebook page one day last week]

ppI worked off Thanksgiving dinner selling books at the Poisoned Pen Bookstore on Black Friday.
I Twittered and posted photos to Facebook all day, and here is a selection for those of you who missed it all.
Twitter 7:37 AM Nov 27th Everybody buy one — just one — book from your local indie bookstore today — Buy a book, save a bookstore!

tableI had my own table, upon which I got to arrange Dana’s Picks.
The table is still there, with picks like The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, First Lord’s Fury by Jim Butcher, The Winter Ghosts by Kate Mosse, Prospero Lost by L. Jagi Lamplighter, Slicky Boys by Martin Limon, and Phoenix Noir, an anthology edited by Patrick Millikin featuring superior noir shorts by the likes of James Sallis, Don Winslow and a real killer by Luis Alberto Urrea.
The cookies are gone.

phx noirTwitter 10:56 AM Nov 27th Help! Customer looking for recent book, fiction or non, about hunters of art stolen by Nazis. Title, anyone?
On Facebook, you responded immediately:
Mary: Loot, by Aaron Elkins.
Kymm: Spoils by S.K. Palumbo.
Melissa: False Impression by Jeffery Archer.
Robert: In non-fiction, “The Rape of Europa,” “The Monuments Men” — there are many more. It’s a popular subject.
And on Saturday, spaz tweeted me: Perhaps Lynn Nicholas’ *The Rape of Europa* (1994) or Jonathan Petropoulos’ *The Faustian Bargain (2000)*?
Customer went away happy. I love you guys.

BillieBillie showed up and wanted suggestions. I was ecstatic to oblige. Sure hope everyone likes all those books, especially her dad, who is getting one of mine.

marilyn mugMarilyn bought an armload and won the A Night Too Dark mug. Woody Allen was right about that if nothing else–all you have to do to succeed in life is show up.

Diane ARCDiane had a list, a pile, and a mile-wide smile. And then after she left she won the ARC of A Night Too Dark. She practically teleported herself back to the store from lunch.
Terrific for the authorial ego, let me tell you.

Twitter 3:31pm Barbara thrilled, says more than twice the business of usual Black Friday, yay! And more to come via e/phone sales.

More photos here and on my Facebook page.
More tweets on my Twitter page.

treeOne self-serving statement with no possible deniability:
There is no gift that keeps on giving like a book.
To paraphrase Barbara Peters of the Poisoned Pen Bookstore,
Buy a book for the kid in your family and make a reader.
Buy a book for a friend and keep that friend.
Buy a book for yourself and…just buy a book for yourself.

Happy holidays, everyone!

Looks like a wildly successful Black Friday. Hooray!
    Did you test the Framboise?

Not yet, Janet. It’s supposed to age at least three months. I always tell everyone not to try it before Christmas.
