week links 1/24/12

Some links from my Facebook page this past week–

Robert Parker died this week, dammit. In homage I posted this clip of the first Jesse Stone movie on Tuesday, which is surely one of the best adaptations of book-to-film ever.

On Friday Rachel at Evergreen Films sent me this Kate art concept for the television series.
Kate concept by Rachel Marquez
Everyone loved it.
Joan said, “If I saw this separate from this post I bet I would think of Kate Shugak right off the bat. It fits.”
Marjorie said, “Not only is it wonderfully dramatic, it’s smart. Keeping Kate and Mutt in silhouette means that anyone can be cast in the roles and the logo would still be right. Brava to the talented Rachel.
Sandy said, “Minimal color, maximum impact. Terrific!
Everything they said.

I’m so pleased that Kate is going to become a TV star. I’ve been following her and Liam for years.

If you’re wondering why a stranger should file two posts in one day, it is because something wonderful happened today. After a few years of illness, I was recently able to return to a job I did years ago, a bookseller. The best job I ever had. Today, a customer brought a C.J. Box mystery to cash/wrap. I wanted to leap over my cash register and take him to your books (and Nevada Barr’s). I couldn’t have done that kind of leaping even in my best days. Besides I couldn’t leave cash/wrap. Instead I wrote both your names down on a piece of paper and stuffed them into the bag with his purchase. As I’m doing this I describe to him that terrific scene of Liam in the airplane at the opening hour of herring of season. “It’s like a dogfight over the English Channel during the Battle of Britain.” I can tell I’m making the sale, not today, but the next time he comes in. Today was a good day. Thank you.

This was the only place I found where I could send you a message. I’m trying to locate a copy of the Liam Campbell book “Bones out of the Grave.” I’ve gone on the internet and cannot find it anywhere. The other four in the series I can get through Powell’s Books in Portland.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks….Becky Leonard

Love the Jesse Stone films. Tom Selleck just rocks in the role. Cannot wait for Blue Bloods to come out, his new TV series.

    Really like the image!

Just watched the latest episode of ‘The Glades’, and spent most of it going Kate candidate, Morgan Hewitt - http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3006624/.

Get ready for a bizarre compliment…

Think you have written her to well, for it to be an easy casting.

I know the new series Rizzola & Isles is giving me problems, because despite willingness to watch the to leads read the phone book, they are not right for the characters.
