Broken in rank and transferred in disgrace, Alaska state trooper Liam Campbell arrives at his new posting in Newenham on Bristol Bay to find lost love and bush pilot Wyanet Chouinard crouched over the body of Bob DeCreft, who may or may not have been murdered with the propeller of her Piper Super Cub.

Back in the day, lots of people really liked Fire and Ice.

…you’ll definitely admire the way Stabenow jumpstarts her story…Stabenow can also grab your attention with the details of everyday life in an Alaskan fishing village…

Amazon.com

Stabenow, author of the Edgar-winning Kate Shugak series…masterfully traces the twisting life of Alaska State Trooper Liam Campbell in this series debut…Happily, this much mayhem has rarely been in surer literary hands.

Publishers Weekly

…This wonderful series start from the Edgar Award-winning author of the Kate Shugak mysteries (Killing Grounds, LJ 3/1/98) is full of raucous action, complicated characters, evocative scenery, and inventive plot. Highly recommended.

Library Journal

…This debut novel in a new series from genre veteran Stabenow (author of the Kate Shugak series) offers compelling reading. The mystery is hard to solve, the plot fast moving and well organized, the Arctic landscape stunning, and the characters vivid and sympathetic. A series to watch.

I don’t have any of those items to download to. Is there any way I can download to the computer?
Thanks anyway, Dana. Have a great holiday.

  2. Susan W says:

  4. Angela says:

Question – I already have all 4 Liam Campbell books on my Kindle – it’s the biggest reason I went with the Kindle instead of the Nook. (HAD to have Liam Campbell with me at all times ) Were these not “official” versions? I have to say, they do have some fairly obvious mistakes in them, for example, Rebecca Hanover’s husband’s name changes partway through as does the name of Lydia Tompkins’ daughter, Betsy, and there are more…. Just wanting to know if these new ones are the same or should I download what is just being released – I’d buy them again for more accurate versions. Glad to see Liam being published again! More, please?? :)

  5. Dana says:

Susan, thanks for answering Marian’s question before I had a chance to. [grin] FYI, my guys at GDP have updated the footnotes. I think the first footnote now includes a link for Marian.

  6. Erma Lawton says:

    Dear Dana:
Totally blown away! Just got an iPad and I’m delighted to have the first of many Stabenow titles on my iBookshelf.

I must admit, I have missed Liam.

    ‘Scuse me, gotta go READ!
    Erma

  7. Amy says:

Awesome! Can’t wait to read it! Thank you very much and have a very Merry Christmas!

  8. Dana says:

    Thanks so much, Erma!

  9. Terrific! But…can’t seem to get the mobi to connect to my Kindle so may have to wait to download from amazon. Thanks a bunch, can’t wait!

  10. Dana says:

@Angela The main reason I took that edition of the Liam novels down from the Kindle was because there were errors. I uploaded them myself and evidently something was lost in translation. I have no idea if it was my fault or Amazon’s, but I got one complaint and on the strength of it I made them all disappear. I didn’t want anyone to have a bad experience reading them. I’m sorry you did.

These new editions are the product of a new venture between me and my webmaster. I’m hoping this experience will be good for everyone.

  11. Cea says:

Bright Solstice and Good Yule. What a nice surprise! Thank you very much. Best present I could get…books!

  12. Rose says:

Just received my Kindle today, Dec. 21. Looking forward to downloading “Fire and Ice” from Amazon as it sounds like the best way to go. Thanks, Dana, for the info, and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

  13. Michael Armstrong says:

Dana: I forwarded the Roadhouse Report e-mail to my iPad e-mail account just to see how smoothly the download went. Holy Steve Jobs! I clicked on the links, iBooks loaded, and up popped the Fire and Ice page. I especially like that FREE icon. I didn’t time it exactly, but I’d guess the whole process took under two minutes. Thanks for the gift. You’re now in the 21st century, ma’am.

  14. GailR says:

Have a wonderful Christmas and a sincere thank you for the book. Liam is a great companion!

  15. Dana says:

The guys are going to love your comment, Michael, thanks! GailR, Rose, Cea, my pleasure!

Hey, we’re getting a little press for this! Who knew?? Check it out on Alaska Dispatch (http://alaskadispatch.com/culture/books/7905-free-for-christmas-fire-and-ice-by-dana-stabenow) and Alaska Business (http://www.akbizmag.com/alaska-news-list/8186-a-free-christmas-gift-from-dana-stabenow.html).

Somebody plugged it on Goodreads, too.

  19. MaryC says:

I saw your announcement earlier this week and thought how nice for those lovely folks who own those reader things… then Santa brought me a Kindle much to my surprise! After some futzing around trying to connect wirelessly (baffled by my own network password, oops) I just downloaded F&I to take with me to the airport today. Took only a couple minutes, really appreciate the link to the Amazon page too. Thanks a bunch Dana!!

  20. Dana says:

I am delighted to be first on your new Kindle, Mary, and you’re most welcome!

  21. Karen Bell says:

Thank you very much for the free book. :)

  22. Dana says:

    Hope you like it!

  23. Laura says:

I got a Kindle for Christmas. Best gift, ever!!! (other than gift cards to various bookstores). I just downloaded Fire and Ice. First Stabenow book to go into the e-book format. I’m sure there will be more. Thanks!!

  24. Dana says:

Delighted you chose Fire and Ice as your first e-book, Laura, what a compliment. Thanks!

  25. Linda J. Martin says:

I have been unable to download the free Fire and Ice novel by the glorious Ms. Stabenow on my iPhone. Any suggestions? The iBook store seems only to have one Dana Stabenow.

  26. Dana says:

I’ll forward your comment to Gere Donovan, Linda, dunno what’s going on there. I’ve got it on mine. (And no one’s ever called me “glorious” before. Now I feel…radiant this morning. [grin])

  27. Scott Gere says:

Linda, send us an email (press@geredonovan.com). If all else fails, we can just email it to you. But what you’re describing sounds strange, since I’m looking at Fire and Ice in the Apple iBookstore on my iPhone … Along with at least 10 other Stabenow titles.

  28. joan says:

    Love your work.

  29. Dana says:

    Thank you so much, Joan.
