SEPTEMBER 2005 NEWSLETTER
Here it is at long last, the cover for the thriller, Blindfold Game. And let's cut right to the chase, here's the excerpt I promised you.
As was kindly pointed out to me by a Danamaniac, Amazon
gives the publishing date as January 10, 2006. As we all know, if it
says it on Amazon it must be true. How come everybody knows this stuff
before I do?
Producers Mike Kelly, Irene Bedard and Scott Rosenfelt are currently in deal-making mode for the filming of A Cold Day for Murder, the first Kate Shugak novel. Here is who has been mentioned for the cast so far:
Kate Shugak . . . . . Irene Bedard
Only Irene plays Kate. Period.
Abel Int-Hout . . . . . Kris Kristofferson
I'm thinking nobody could play the Alaskan old fart better.
Jack Morgan. . . . . Aaron Eckhart
Mike the Movie Guy has talked to Eckhart and he wants to come to Alaska
and do extreme snowboarding after the shoot, but he's gotten very busy
and commensurately expensive, so not a sure thing.
Jim Chopin . . . . . Laird Macintosh
Mike says Laird and Irene have great chemistry. He sure looks the part.
Chick Noyukpuk . . . . . Graham Greene
I would kill for Graham Greene to play any part in any movie that had
anything to do with any of my books. He lights up every screen he's on.
Martin Shugak . . . . . Adam Beach
If you didn't see him in Smoke Signals, go rent it now.
Mike the Movie Guy will answer questions posted on "Ask Mike" on the Movie News forum topic. Click here to go to the Discussion Forums page.
The rough draft of A Deeper Sleep,
aka Kate15, was finished on Monday, August 29, at approximately 1:47am,
but who's counting. I expect to have the final draft in the mail to New
York by the end of September. It is scheduled to be published in
November 2006. Oh, stop whining. It'll be worth the wait, I promise
you.
I'm composing this newsletter at the 2005 Bouchercon,
held in Chicago this year, and like they always do everyone keeps
asking all the authors what we're reading. I always want to say, Do you
have a couple of hours? Instead, I direct them to the Book Talk Alaska page on my website, where I have a list of all the books we have read and discussed on the show over the years.
If you'd like to listen to the show itself, go to KSKA's website and follow the breadcrumbs.
And if you're thinking about coming to the Alaska Bouchercon in 2007 -- and why wouldn't you be -- click here
.
One of the most frequent requests I get is for a list of the Kate and Liam books in the order they were published. Right here, along with excerpts, cover art, gossipy bits about who they are dedicated to, and me reading clips.
The next newsletter will come out in December, with all the news about the Blindfold Game tour. See you then!
